A Day on the Wapta

Enjoyed a great day out on the classic Wapta Traverse with two good friends Joren Titus and Adam Campbell. After many trips out to various points along the Wapta Icefield, this was my first time completing the whole traverse in a single push. Although we had a great weather forecast, being earlier in spring season we were expecting slower traveling conditions(i.e. trail breaking). Very fortunately for us, another team had the same idea for the day and with a much earlier start than us, they set the track for the day. The skiing was as to be expected, pretty flat for the most part. A fun side trip up Mt. Gordon about halfway into the traverse helped break the monotony of skinning, giving us a few great turns by taking a direct line of the summit. The snow coverage was excellent and we had no issues navigating the glacier.

At the end of the day we ended up skiing about 48km’s with 2500m of vert in 10hrs 40min. Awesome day out in a beautiful place.
